Watch This

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

(Please excuse the corny title.)

How cool are these watches. I recently stumbled upon Toy Watch USA. They have a set of watches that they call The Jelly Shop. Here is a sample of one of their products.

The price tag is kind of a killer, but hey if you got the extra dough then I’d definitely go for it. Check out the link at the top and it’ll take you to the shop, where you can customize your watch before buying it. There’s a ton of different strap colors that you can match up with different watch faces. I’d love to have one, but unless one of you hires me sometime soon, sadly it won’t be in the budget :)

Changes, part 2

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Been working really hard on the redesign for the homepage. It’s taking way longer than I though, but the time spent is very much worth it. I’m trying to use every bit of what I’ve learned in the web development world and make it all work together. Today’s sample is taken from the new navigation.

In keeping with my whole whitespace movement, I wanted to leave things as simple as possible.  So everything is real clean with a focus on the typography. The little snail on the left is the icon for the homepage. Since I decided to not go with a traditional layout (branding logo on the upper right, navigation to the left and underneath), the little snail functions as a sort of branding and link back home.  That will help on the following pages when we get further and further away from the front page.

Hope to have the finished product for you all by next week. Don’t want to give you anything less than that, though.

Changes

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Well my mind is goin’ through them changes,
I feel like I’m hypnotized.
Every time you see me goin’ somewhere,
I feel like I’m goin’ out of my mind.

“Changes” – Jimi Hendrix & Band of Gypsies

Had lots of time to get alot of work done on a wet, rainy and windy weekend. I’ve been working on a redesign for the homepage (yes, another re-design). Don’t get me wrong, I love the current design. I absolutely love it. But for right now, I think its a little to whimsical (albeit, unprofessional). This new one has a similar feel, but a little more robust, and will definitely be easier to update. That’s key since I’ve had alot of projects the past few weeks. Peep the logo and stay tuned!

AIAIAI

Check out these sick headsets from AIAIAI (no, that is not a typo).

The origins of their company sound pretty cool too. They are a small, Copenhagen-based team of only 4 people, that sort of expanded into the headphone business. All of their stuff is retro and in my opinion, cool as hell! Check out more of their products at http://www.aiaiai.dk/.

Recession Design

Here’s an interesting article from Staple Design that was forwarded to me by my good friend over at Giles Norway. It’s interesting to think about how companies want to earn the consumer’s trust these days and “invite” them back to their stores. Naturally, design and branding is a huge part of that.
